How will this course help me in the future?
The study of Geography allows students to:
• Gain knowledge – which will help them see the world from a variety of viewpoints and help them make sense of a complex and changing globe.
• Develop skills – in map reading and photographic interpretation as well as research, analysis and survey skills. They will also develop an environmental awareness and responsibility towards a sustainable world.
• Job prospects – a study of Geography is useful in most careers but particularly in environmental management, urban and town planning, resource management, business, commerce and tourism.
What else do I need to know?
• There is a compulsory Fieldwork excursion in year 12- approximately $160
• Class work links in with major excursions for fieldwork, skills work, white water rafting and kayaking.
• Work completed in Junior Geography (Years 7-10) provides an excellent foundation for this course. This course gives students who have performed well in Geography in Stage 5 the opportunity to use knowledge and skills already developed to act as a foundation in gaining higher marks in a HSC subject.
