What will I be doing in this course?
You will be studying the world of business i.e. how businesses operate, what makes them successful and what you need to know to run a business. You will learn about establishment, operation and management of business.
Topics include: Nature of Business, Business Management, Business Planning, Marketing, Operations, Human Resources and Finance.
How will I be assessed?
Preliminary Course
In addition to exams, stimulus based skills tasks and classwork, students will plan a small business by creating an actual business plan. When further development, this plan can be used to establish a real business once you leave school.
HSC Course
In addition to exams and assignments, the external Higher School Certificate exam is three hours and consists of multiple choice, short answer and extended response questions.
How will this course help me in the future?
This course will be very useful if you undertake any business-based courses after Year 12. You may also find it very useful when you get a job because you will better understand how the business works and the roles of the people in it. Careers in Accounting, Marketing and Human Resource Management would be a good option for a Business Studies student.
What else do I need to know?
• This course draws from your knowledge and experience of the real world. It is not just theory and it will be helpful when you leave school.
• It is not necessary for students to have done business related courses such as Show Me The Money in Years 9 & 10.
• There will be no subject fees though excursion costs may be required.
