Vocational Board Developed Course (BSB30120)
Category B
Certificate lll in Business

What will I be doing in this course?

Topics Covered:

Students concentrate on developing a range of skills required to work effectively and safely in a modern office environment.  These include-
• oral and written communication skills
• information handing
• working with others
• work processing
• use office equipment/computers

This course involves 70 hours work placement.

How will I be assessed?

VET courses involve continuous and ongoing assessment.  Students need to be able to show competence in a variety of ways such as performance, oral communication, production of documents, tests etc.  Some competencies are assessed in the workplace. Students will be progressively assessed as ‘competent’ or ‘not yet competent’ in individual units.

External assessment

The optional Higher School Certificate examination for Business Services will involve a written examination consisting of multiple-choice items, short answers and extended response items. HSC exam covers work done in Year 11 & Year 12.

How will this course help me in the future?

VET courses provide students with dual credentials and advanced standing at TAFE.  Successful students will receive a Certificate III (or Statement of Attainment) in Business Services and a mark in their HSC that contributes towards their ATAR (provided they have the correct subject combination).  Students may elect not to sit the HSC examination and will still receive a Certificate III or Statement of Attainment.

What else do I need to know?

• This course has a compulsory work placement component. It is a more practical alternative to the more academic Business Studies course.
• Some transport cost for work placement may have to be met by the student.

Who should I contact for further information?

Mr Peter Joyce and/or Mrs Jodie Collits (Head Teacher HSIE)
