What will I be doing in this course?
This course is designed for students who wish to extend their music skills, who may or may not have studied music as an elective in the junior school. Students will learn to perform, compose, study and aurally analyse music. Three different units of music will be studied in each of the years, representing a wide range of musical styles.
Students will acquire:-
• Instrument performance skills
• Skills in composing music
• Skills in studying music
• Skills in listening to and analysing music
How will I be assessed?
There will be assessment tasks in each of the four areas of study (in each of the units) in a range of assessment techniques including:-
• Individual performance
• Submitted compositions and process diaries
• Research assignments
• Listening tests
How will this course help me in the future?
Music study can be rewarding in itself but can also lead to tertiary studies and careers in performing, film and media, retail and teaching.
What else do I need to know?
• There is a $25.00 charge per annum.
• This course has a big commitment for performance. You will need to organise your time well.
• Most university level Music courses rely significantly on audition for entry and will also consider your ATAR. It is important to check requirements at individual institutions.
