What will I be doing in this course?

This course is designed for students who wish to develop skills in personal presentation, performance and group collaboration via enactment.

The Preliminary Course comprises practical and theoretical work in the area of Improvisation, Play building and Acting, Production elements in performance and Theatre Traditions and performance styles.

The Higher School Certificate Course involves practical and theoretical study of Australian Drama and Theatre and Studies in Drama and Theatre.

Students will also be involved with the Group Performance which is a compulsory element of this course. The Individual Project enables students to specialise in their choice of Critical Analysis or Design or Performance or Script Writing or Video Drama.

How will I be assessed?

Preliminary – Improvisation, Play building and Acting – 40%; Elements of Production in Performance – 30%; Theatrical Traditions and Performance Styles – 30%.

HSC Internal Assessment – Australian Drama and Theatre – 30%; Studies in Drama and Theatre – 30%; Development of Individual Project – 20%; and Development of Group Performance – 20%.

External (HSC)Written Examination 40%; Group Performance 30%; and Individual Project 30%.

How will this course help me in the future?

A study of Drama opens up many and varied employment opportunities but the strength of the subject are the skills that students develop throughout the course.  Self-confidence and communication skills are developed as well as vital self-presentation. Students will also develop their writing and analytical skills, as well as advancing their ability to work as part of a team and individually.

What else do I need to know?

• You can start Drama for the first time in Year 11 as the course is designed to provide you with the skills to be successful in the Higher School Certificate regardless of your past experience.
• There is a course fee of $20.00 per year.
